Frightfully Adorable Halloween Tablescapes

Hey, there!  Since Halloween is Thursday, this week is going to be all about celebrating this fun and spooky holiday.  I haven’t yet published anything Halloween-ish on this blog, so I’m really excited about doing so this year.  Today, we’re focusing on frightful Halloween tablescapes.  ;-)  I, like so many of you, love designing a table theme around any holiday (really, I’m not picky!).  I love poking around Pinterest for ideas and then putting my own spin on them.  Let’s look at some fun ones, shall we?

Halloween and Early Fall Decorating

Hey, there!  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Since the days are ticking away to Halloween, I thought I would share some of my simple decorations with you today!  I was so excited when I pulled out my Fall decor last month because I had just enough to sort of ease my way into the season — here in Arizona temperatures don’t really start to drop until right about now.  I’m looking forward to doing some more decorating when my Halloween things come down, but for now, this is what I’ve got!

Halloween and Early Fall Decorating  {Inspiration Affirmation}
Our dining area got a fun splash of Halloween with our Halloween Town up on the top of the bookshelf.  This always sort of acts as our mantle, and I love having it in lieu of a fireplace mantle for now.  I zhushed up some black spooky netting, and my husband and I nestled the Halloween Town on top.  It lights up at night, which is really fun, but is also really difficult to take good pictures of.  ;-)

Halloween and Early Fall Decorating  {Inspiration Affirmation}
This is just an easy little centerpiece I threw together for the top of our dining table.  The bowl is vintage Waterford, and the leaves are just a couple of garlands from the Dollar Store strategically wrapped around a candle from Hob Lob.

Halloween and Early Fall Decorating  {Inspiration Affirmation}
Don’t worry — I never light this particular arrangement.  I don’t think that would be a good idea, lol.

Halloween and Early Fall Decorating  {Inspiration Affirmation}
I bought that pumpkin candle from Target a couple of weeks ago and have already burned through it.  It’s pretty orange mercury glass, and I am probably going to buy another one because I miss it already.  The rope candlesticks are from Anthropologie and usually look really nautical but I think with the orange pumpkin, they add a pretty natural element.  And of course I had to bring out my super-cozy faux fur throw from Restoration Hardware that my mother- and father-in-law bought for us last Christmas.  We love snuggling underneath it — it’s so warm!

And then there’s my fun DIY mummy wreath hanging on our door.  :-)  Greyson loves Halloween so I really made an effort to decorate for him this year.  This wreath was pretty simple, I just used a tutorial from Bower Power Blog (http://www.bowerpowerblog.com/) and hung it on a Command Hanger, then Velcro’d the arm of the wreath to the door.  The worms are glow-in-the-dark and you can find packs of them at the Dollar Store!

I had to include these.  How sweet is he?!  :-)  I love my baby.

Have you done any Halloween decorating yet?  I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to Halloween — it has been so much fun finding projects and recipes to try out.  What would we do without Pinterest?  ;-)

Daddy, I Want a Golden Goose…Egg

For those of you who remember the old Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, you know exactly what I’m referring to!  For those of you who don’t, well, you’ll just have to take a look at this here video.  ;-)  And enjoy!

The truth is, I thought of this easy, five-minute craft, and the title of this blog post right before I went to bed the other night, and there was no way that I could pass it up!  If you stopped by my blog yesterday, you probably saw this post where I made a little egg-scene underneath a glass dome.  If you didn’t see it, here’s Exhibit A.

{Inspiration Affirmation}
See that little egg in there?

{Inspiration Affirmation}
Here’s the deal.  We’ve got several gold/brass accents in our living room.  A lamp, a mirror, a gilded wishbone print on the wall…you get what I’m saying.  I loved the idea of having a little glitz on my egg…just to make it a little more fit for our space.

So, out cam my trusty Rub n Buff.

{Inspiration Affirmation}
Love this stuff, pretty much obsessed with it.  It’s so easy to use, and it’s quick to dry — it’s basically the perfect product.  Think of it like a cross between paint and…and…ointment?  I know, that’s totally weird.  But it’s true!

I grabbed a tissue from the bathroom…

{Inspiration Affirmation}
And I squeezed out just a tiny amount of the Rub n Buff on the tissue…a little goes a long way, people!

{Inspiration Affirmation}
Then, you just do what the title of the product says — I RUBBED the product on the little egg and it BUFFED itself out.  It gives whatever you’re putting it on a nice, smooth, metallic finish.

{Inspiration Affirmation}
WEE!  Instantly, it becomes a golden goose egg.  Why didn’t Veruca Salt think to make one herself?

{Inspiration Affirmation}
See?  Instantly gilded egg.  At no cost, I might add.

{Inspiration Affirmation}
See my brass lamp back there?  (Target)

{Inspiration Affirmation}
And there we have it.  You may also notice that I lined my lucite tray from CB2 with some fabric.  Don’t worry, no glue or adhesive spray was involved — it’s just laying there.  But I think it looks pretty.  :-)

If you would like to see another Rub n Buff project that has appeared here on the blog, check out what I did with the product + a small clear vase!

Have you attempted or completed any projects with Rub n Buff lately?  Are you all decorated for Easter?  I can’t believe it’s only a week away!

Moving + Nesting

It’s been quite a while since I’ve logged on to this little blog, but my husband and I are finally feeling settled in our new place, so I have a bit of time.  :-)  Yep, we moved — very close to our old place but still a new home to decorate, unpack in, and enjoy.  It’s been quite the ride.  Along with that, school has been keeping me incredibly busy.  I’m looking forward to my Spring break in a couple of weeks — I’m hoping I can get some projects completed the week that I am off!  There hasn’t been a ton of time for decorating, except for on the weekends when I can usually get an hour or two of craftiness in — it keeps me sane.  ;-)

{Inspiration Affirmation}
This is simple enough, right?  My mother-in-law decorates with eggs, moss, and nests underneath domes each spring and this is the first time that I have actually tried it myself.  Super easy — it literally took me less than five minutes to create this cuteness.  The dome is from HomeGoods (where else?) and the moss, nest, and egg is from Hobby Lobby.

{Inspiration Affirmation}
I piled some of my favorite decorating books and placed my way-too-awesome nose bookend on its side on top.  Quatrefoil coasters are from Pier One ages ago, and the lucite tray is one of my favorite pieces of decor, from Crate and Barrel.

{Inspiration Affirmation}
Just another view.  :-)

{Inspiration Affirmation}
I used the rest of the eggs and moss that I bought from Hobby Lobby and gently placed them in my vintage Waterford crystal bowl.  The bowl is sitting on top of a cigar box that my husband really loves.

{Inspiration Affirmation}
I’m going to be painting this piece of furniture that the eggs and other decor is resting upon.  Any color ideas for me?  :-)

{Inspiration Affirmation}
Here’s where we’re at with our living room right now.  It’s sort of a hodge-podge but I do love how it is slowly coming together.

{Inspiration Affirmation}
That hardware on the side table needs to change — I’m going to tackle that really quickly this weekend!  :-)  Just watch me!

Happy Friday, friends!  I’m glad we made it.  ;-)  If you’ve been around Inspiration Affirmation at all this week, you know that we’re right in the midst of a two-week long series called Moms’ Christmas Home Tours.  This week has been dedicated to my mother-in-law and her gorgeous Christmas decor, and next week, it’s my momma’s turn to take the stage!

Moms' Christmas Home Tours Week One {Inspiration Affirmation} So, here we are.  It’s Friday, and that always means it’s time for a Room Translation.  But, I thought I would mix it up a little bit and do a variation of my traditional Room Translation post.  I’m sure you remember the Brick Room from Day One of this series.  If not, here’s a little refresher.

On Monday, I showed you how my mother-in-law decorates for Christmas in the Brick Room — red tree, feathers, and all!

On Tuesday, we peeked into her kitchen to see what goes on in there this time of year in terms of decor.  There is a kitchen tree (of course), lots of greenery, and some ribbon for good measure.

On Wednesday, we hung around the entryway, which is decked out with flocked trees and adorable little furry owls.

Moms’ Christmas Home Tour: The Crystal Tree

Good morning!  We’re on Day Four of Week One of my Moms’ Christmas Home Tour Series (say that five times fast, ha!) and I’m so glad that you are here!  If you’re just tuning in, you may want to start back at Monday’s post where I explain what is going on here at Inspiration Affirmation for the next couple of weeks — I hear that there is a beeeautiful room waiting for you there, as well!  ;-)

Moms' Christmas Home Tours {Inspiration Affirmation} Tuesday brought us some great kitchen Christmas decorating inspiration, and Wednesday I featured my mother-in-law’s entry, which is complete with flocked trees and cutie Pottery Barn owls!

Moms' Christmas Home Tours Week One {Inspiration Affirmation} Here we are at Day Four, which brings me to my favorite tree at my mother- and father-in-law’s house… The Crystal Tree.  This tree sits in the main living area of the house, where we gather as a family to chit-chat after dinner or watch football on Superbowl Sunday!  ;-)

The Crystal Tree {Inspiration Affirmation}
I love this tree for many reasons, but mostly I just love how it is all-white with little glimpses of silvery and glittery perfection.

The Crystal Tree {Inspiration Affirmation}
This tree is lit up not by lights within the branches, but by sprigs of snowy white sticks that you see jutting out of the tree.  These give off an amazing glow and truly make this tree shimmer.  And do you see those miniature chandeliers?  Those are all over the tree, and they are powered by (fake) tea lights to make them glow!  (Fun fact: those little chandeliers were used at our wedding last November, and my sister-in-law’s too!)

The Crystal Tree {Inspiration Affirmation}
I love the ribbon that cascades down the tree.  For a good tutorial on how to accomplish this sort of look for your tree, check out this video from Robeson Design.

The Crystal Tree {Inspiration Affirmation}
One more look at the Crystal Tree.  :-)  It just makes me happy.  Oh, and I have a tip for you, too — straight from my mother-in-law!  I asked her if she has to make a new bow for her tree from year to year, and she told me that the answer is nope!  Simply fill your bow loops with tissue paper to keep its shape and store it delicately — this should last you a couple of years.  And this goes for all of your bows, too!

So…the Crystal Tree.  Isn’t she pretty?  Do you have any tips on keeping your bows fresh for a couple of years?

*Make sure you come back tomorrow for a special take on Friday’s Room Translation!*

Moms’ Christmas Home Tour: A Christmasy Entry

Happy Wednesday!  We’re on Day Three of Week One of my Moms’ Christmas Home Tour Series (say that five times fast, ha!) and I’m so glad that you are here!  If you missed Monday’s post where I wrote about what’s going on here at Inspiration Affirmation these next couple of weeks, head over there now (rumor has it there’s a beautiful room waiting for you there, too!)  And if you missed yesterday’s post about festive decor ideas for your kitchen, you may want to backtrack a little bit!  ;-)

Moms' Christmas Home Tours {Inspiration Affirmation} I’ve got my mother-in-law’s Christmasy entry for you today on the blog!  Here’s this week’s schedule, too, in case you missed it!

Moms' Christmas Home Tours Week One {Inspiration Affirmation} Let’s head into that entry, shall we?

A Christmasy Entry {Inspiration Affirmation}
There’s so much *pretty* in this room — from Santa to a serene angel to two flocked trees with cutie Pottery Barn owls…  Let’s take a closer look!

A Christmasy Entry {Inspiration Affirmation}
Here’s Santa for you, and if he’s not festive, I don’t know who is!  ;-)  I love his scraggly beard and garland embellishment.

A Christmasy Entry {Inspiration Affirmation}
A pretty and glitzy angel sits inside of a silver bowl.  Isn’t she lovely?  And a golden sleigh next to her is the perfect drop-spot for Christmas cards from season to season.

A Christmasy Entry {Inspiration Affirmation}

A Christmasy Entry {Inspiration Affirmation}
Two flocked trees greet you upon walking in the front door, and they are decorated with sweet silver ornaments and adorable fuzzy owls.

A Christmas Entry {Inspiration Affirmation}
Too cute not to pet, I’m tellin’ you.  Those little eyes!

Let’s take one last look at the entry, just for good measure.

A Christmasy Entry {Inspiration Affirmation}

What’s your favorite aspect of this Christmasy entry?  Do you have a Santa waiting to greet you upon walking in your front door?  How about some fuzzy owls?  ;-)

*Don’t miss tomorrow’s post about my mother-in-law’s Crystal Tree!*
